The Hollow Tree by Clive Martyn

In the hollow tree,
My heart lives,
Protected,
Shielded,
By solid oak,
Hidden,
Surrounded,
By yellowing leaves,
Thick branches,
Away from hurt,
Away from pain,
Invisible,
Waiting for the day,
When its cracks,
No longer show,
When the hurt
Has been erased,
Ready for me,
To fetch it,
And give it to someone else,
Someone who will protect it,
Not break it.
